SERP Email Scout Privacy Policy

SERP Email Scout is a Chrome extension that finds contact email addresses businesses have published on their public web pages, starting from a Google search results page you are viewing. This policy explains exactly what the extension touches, where that data lives, and the one optional feature that makes a network request beyond fetching the pages you asked it to scan.

The short version: we run no servers. Everything the extension extracts stays on your device unless you choose to run the optional Verify check described below, which shares only domain names with a public DNS resolver. We could not read your data if we wanted to, because there is nowhere for it to go.

What the extension does

When you click Scan on a Google search results page, the extension reads the result links on that page, fetches those publicly accessible pages, extracts email addresses published on them, and shows you the results in the popup. All of that processing happens locally in your browser.

Data handled on your device

The extension stores the following in your browser’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local), on your device only:

• Your settings. Result count, request delay, extraction mode, exclusion lists, and similar preferences.
• Extracted email addresses and the page titles and URLs they came from, shown in the popup and kept in your scan history.
• Scan history. Your 10 most recent scans; older entries are deleted automatically as new scans replace them. You can turn history off in Settings, and you can clear it at any time.
• Local usage counters. How many scans you have run and emails you have extracted this month, used to enforce the free tier’s monthly limits. These reset monthly.

All of this stays on your device until you clear it or uninstall; nothing is transmitted to us, and nothing is transmitted to anyone else except the optional Verify lookup described below. We have no account system, no analytics, and no backend. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of it.

Website content the extension reads

To do its job, the extension reads the Google search results page you are on (the result links only) and fetches the public pages those results point to. Because search results can point at any website, the extension has permission to fetch pages on any domain; it only ever uses that permission on the pages your search returned and their contact pages, and only when you click Scan or Retry. Page content is processed on your device to find published email addresses and is then discarded. It is not stored beyond the extracted results and is never transmitted anywhere.

As with any web request, the websites the extension fetches (and, if you use Verify, Cloudflare) receive normal network metadata such as your IP address, the same as if you visited those pages yourself.

The extension checks the address of your active tab for one purpose: to confirm you are on a Google search page before enabling the Scan button. It does not track your browsing.

The one optional network feature: Verify

If you click Verify, the extension checks whether the domains of your extracted email addresses have a mail server. To do this it sends the domain part only (for example acme.com, never the full email address, never anything about you) to Cloudflare’s public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver at cloudflare-dns.com. This is the same kind of DNS lookup your browser performs when it visits a website. It runs only when you click Verify, never automatically. What we never do

• No servers, no accounts, no sign-in.
• No analytics, tracking pixels, or telemetry of any kind.
• No selling, sharing, or transferring of data. There is nothing on our side to sell or share.
• No remote code. All extension code ships in the reviewed package.

Your responsibilities

The extension finds contact information that businesses chose to publish so that people can reach them. How you contact those people is up to you, and email outreach laws (such as CAN-SPAM in the United States and CASL in Canada) apply to what you send. Nothing in this policy or product is legal advice.

Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA)

SERP Email Scout is operated by Scott Douglas (SKD Media), based in Canada, who is accountable for the practices in this policy. Because all data the extension handles lives on your own device, you can access, correct, or delete it directly at any time through the extension’s settings or by uninstalling; there is no copy held by us to request. The one third party involved, Cloudflare’s public DNS resolver used by the opt-in Verify feature, may process DNS queries on servers outside Canada. Questions or complaints about our practices can be sent to the contact address below; if you are not satisfied with the response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Changes to this policy

If a future version changes what the extension does with data in any way (for example, an optional paid feature that validates a license key), we will update this policy and disclose the change prominently in the product before that version ships. The core promise does not change: extraction runs 100% in your browser, and your lists stay yours.
